The Masterson Method®

The Masterson Method® is a form of equine bodywork which involves following the responses of the horse in order to identify and release tension in the whole body. It is a mixed modality method with integrated concepts and techniques from acupressure, massage, chiropractic, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, and more. This method of bodywork can help horses learn to access the parasympathetic nervous system and release deep layers of tension, with lasting results. It is also an excellent form of communication with the horse, useful in evaluating primary sources of discomfort and physical vs. behavioral issues.

Jim Masterson created the method for working with performance horses, and it is valuable to help any horse or equine release tension and improve range of motion. Jim worked as a groom on top rated Hunter/Jumper circuits in the U.S., and was exposed to several modalities of equine bodywork which he pursued and blended into his own practice. He was the primary massage therapist for the USET Endurance Teams from 2006-2014, and worked with many horses competing in FEI World Cup, Pan American and World Games classes. Jim has now certified hundreds of Masterson Method® practitioners world wide, in all levels and disciplines of the equine industry.
