The Masterson Method

The Masterson Method® is a form of equine bodywork which involves following the responses of the horse in order to identify and release tension in the whole body. It is a mixed modality method during which the practitioner assists the horse in moving key junctions of the body through a range of motions in a relaxed state. It integrates concepts and techniques from acupressure, massage, chiropractic, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, and more. It is also an excellent form of communication with the horse, useful in evaluating primary sources of discomfort and physical vs. behavioral issues.

Jim Masterson designed the method for performance horses, but it is valuable to help any horse release tension and improve range of motion. Jim worked as a groom on top rated Hunter/Jumper circuits in the U.S., and was exposed to several modalities of equine bodywork which he pursued and blended into his own practice. Jim worked as the primary massage therapist for the USET Endurance Teams from 2006-2014, and with many horses competing in FEI World Cup, Pan American and World Games classes. His school now certifies thousands of practitioners world wide, in all levels and disciplines of the equine industry.
